Second QiC Diabetes programme to launch

The second Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes programme will be launched at this year’s Diabetes UK conference in Glasgow, from 7-9th March, recognising good healthcare practice in diabetes in the UK.

Supported by Diabetes UK, NHS Diabetes and Sanofi, QiC Diabetes 2012 comprises both an awards event and subsequent opportunities for finalists to explain why their efforts were successful to a wider healthcare audience, including presenting at the Diabetes UK’s Annual Professional Conference.

Diabetes was chosen as the first therapy area to be covered by QiC in 2011 due to the increasing need to find the best way to tackle the social and economic burden of the condition which now affects 2.9 million people in the UK.

Simon O’Neill, Director of Care, Information and Advocacy, Diabetes UK, said, “Diabetes UK is delighted to continue its support of QiC Diabetes. The standard of entries in the first year was outstanding and has enabled us to share and learn from best practice in the field of diabetes care. We look forward to seeing even more examples of excellence through the second QiC Diabetes programme.”

Dr Nigel Stones, part of the winning team for clinical service redesign for the Bringing Specialist Care into Primary Care project, said, “We were amazed to win the gold award in our category at QiC Diabetes – makes all the hard work worthwhile. We feel very motivated to extend our project and incorporate new ideas.”
Entries are invited from the NHS, industry and patient organisations, with joint working and collaboration key to the QiC Programmes.

More details on QiC Diabetes, including details of all the finalists from last year’s awards are available at www.qualityincare.org/diabetes.

The entry deadline is May 2012 with the Awards taking place at Sanofi’s Guildford headquarters in October 2012.
